As Brian wisely pointed out, this won't work. It's not the the serial<->USB adapter that is the problem, it's that AppleTalk doesn't work over USB (which is why you are confused about which option to pick in the AppleTalk control panel). This option won't work for you. There are serial<->Ethernet adapters available, but they usually aren't cost effective and don't do anything to get your ethernet-less book on the Internet (since MacIP - AppleTalk encapsulated IP packets - has gone the way of the dodo). Pick up a cheap 3Com card and call it a day. Or, if all you want to do is a file transfer, z-modem is the way to go. If you have a 3rd Mac with ethernet AND serial ports, you can download Apple's "LocalTalk Bridge" onto the 3rd mac and use it as a go-between to connect the two 'books directly. This still won't pass IP traffic (unless for some really strange reason you are using MacIP on your network instead of TCP/IP). There is 3rd party software that will allow you to translate between TCP/IP and MacIP provided you have that 3rd mac, but this is just overkill. Really, go get that 3Com card. Peace, Drew P.S. - Linksys does not officially support the Macintosh (with drivers). Some of their products work because they are standards based (wireless access points - except that these also don't pass AppleTalk packets -, hubs, switches, cable/DSL "routers," etc), but their cards do not work on Mac OS. -- Author of ClassicStumbler email: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> web: <http://homepage.mac.com/alk/> Want to know if your neighbor has Wi-Fi?
