In my experience the USB to SCSI converters barely work at best, will 
fry your stuff at worst (the latter per usenet posts when I was asking 
about issues with one at the university that I tried out).

I would use them with caution, and realize you can get a real and 
reliable SCSI card (PCI or PCCard) for about what the USB to SCSI 
convertor costs (SOL if you're on an ibook with no PCMCIA slot though).
