While a PowerBook uses less power than a desktop it's not that little. Drawing from actual power measurements a 7500 uses 87 W while a G3 Kanga PowerBook draws 24 W. That's not counting the monitor on the 7500 but is including the display on the PB. Measurements are actual Watts, not VA. Laptop batteries were fully charged (thus the number doesn't include changing current).

That's a ratio of 3.6:1, not the 32:1 you quote.


Both in cost and pollution terms its a huge difference.


I really don't think there are any hardware issues **as long as you dont let your machine overheat *** by running it flat out on a towel or thick carpet as someone mentioned.

The disks are IMHO just as reliable as their bigger relatives, in fact there's an argument that as they are smaller and use less power, they are under less strain physically and electronically.
