We converted a 520C to a 5300 by just swapping the board - so I think? the
answer's yes they are identical. But others may confirm or deny

I think you mean that you converted a 190c to a 5300 by swapping the motherboard. The 5x0 series and the 5300 have no identical parts, as far as I know.

The trackpad mechanism itself may be swappable, but I'm pretty sure that it isn't. I believe the 5x0 series used a 1st generation trackpad, the 5300 a 2nd generation trackpad, and the 190, 2300, and 1400 all used a 3rd generation trackpad. The connectors on each should be unique. Anyone with a 5300 and a 500 series care to take a look?

The buttons are different, however. I've never taken apart a 520, but I doubt it's button can be used in a 5300.

My suggestion is that you pick up an entire PowerBook _190_ palmrest assembly on eBay or the Swap List and swap the assembly in your 5300 for it. The assembly should cost between $5 and $10.

Peace,
Drew
