Well, I was just fumbling with the installer, and I found that the
Trackpad control panel is causing the problems. I got the system
installed, works great, the CD isnt machine specific. I know the error
you're referring to, but that's only if you don't dig deep enough. If
you go through the Full Install Pieces folder, the whole Mac OS 8
installer is there.


Well you learn something new every day! I didn't know the workaround was _that_ easy... I'm glad you got the installer working. Can you now just unpack the Trackpad control panel from the Tome manually or is it totally corrupted? It seems odd that a system installer would have that particular problem - you'd think Apple would have discovered that in testing...
