I downloaded the WaveLAN software and burned an install CD. Then, I removed all Skyline files from every folder into which they had been previously successfully installed. Then, I installed the WaveLAN software using Lucent's installer. The software installation was successful. Finally, I rebooted the 1400. This is a 133 MHz 1400cs, BTW. The results were amusing ... and frustrating. 1) the WaveLAN software reports that it will not work with the 1400, however 2) the WaveLAN software will operate the Proxim Skyline card which was previously setup. The WaveLAN files installed were: 1) Control Panels folder: WaveLAN(R)Setup (will not work with the Proxim Skyline nor with the 1400), 2) Extensions folder: WaveLAN(R)CARD, WaveLAN(R)DLPI, and WaveLAN(R)SCAN, (all apparently are working). So, IFF a previously setup Skyline card is inserted into a PCMCIA slot of a 1400 onto which the WaveLAN software was successfully installed, then the Skyline card will work, but none of the Skyline's parameters can be changed as the WaveLAN control panel won't work. I guess I'll go back to the Skyline (really, Farallon) software, and seek another solution for the G3'd 1400. -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
