I would appreciate advice for setting the display screen contrast on a powerbook 5300. The usual buttons for Brightness and Contrast on the right side do not darker the screen as much as I would like before continued pressing of them makes the screen go black with not enough contrast or brightness.

One 5300 I have running OS 8.1 has a choice in the Control Panel> Monitors for Uncorrected Gamma, as well as the usual LCD choice for the screen size. When I click on Uncorrected Gamma the screen has a deeper, clearer hue and I would like this to stay. However, each time it is restarted, it goes back to the LCD choice which is brighter. How do I make the first one the default?
Thanks.
