Hello

I have recently acquired a dead 5300ce from which I scavenged the
display assembly and have put it onto a working 5300 (that had a
control panel shows 256 and thousands and 640x480 and 832x624
available. How come this comes up? I thought this is a 800x600
screen? At 256 colors it works at 832x624 but if I set to thousands
Boris, I am guessing the 5300 motherboard has only 1/2 meg of VRAM,
and to use thousands of colors at 800x600, you need 1 meg of VRAM.
The 5300ce motherboard had 1 meg of VRAM on it.
Theoretically, you can solder down the extra 1/2 meg yourself, but I
dont know if anyone has been successful doing it.

Please correct me if I am wrong but shouldn't the control strip (and the control panel) show 640x480 as well as 800x600? I only get 800x600 as the available resolution and this cannot use thousands since 512 mb is not enough for 800x600. Also at some point there was only 832x624 available inspite this being only a 800x600 screen. Twilight zone?

Was there anyone successful in soldering the additional 512 vram on the motherboard? I do have a dead 5300ce board on which I believe the vram (and ram) is intact. I was also thinking on soldering the additional ram on the board thus increasing system ram. Any success stories here?

Regards,
Boris
