The 3400c has a Cardbus compliant slot, but the slot itself is "keyed" for PCMCIA cards, not for Cardbus cards. It is possible, although it is quite difficult, to modify the 3400's card cage to accept Cardbus cards. Given that a USB card can be had for about $24.95 at Fry's and at other places, why not just modify the Cardbus card to fit the 3400C? I use a PPA International Cardbus USB card in my 3500 (the 3400 is identical with respect to the PC card slot issues) with satisfaction, but I have not been able to find any Firewire card which works in either my 3500, or my Wallstreet II.
