Yes, the PRAM battery is probably discharged, but may not be dead yet. You see
- this is a rechargeable Li battery (coin size, Vanadium Pentoxide Lithium, to
be exact, and the PB is using 2 of them) that is charged when the AC power
adapter is used.
My recommendation is that you leave the PB plugged in for a week or two, then
check the PRAM settings again (may require a few restarts).
If this fails, the procedure to replace is a bit tricky but doable. Check
http://www.members.aol.com/dnmonk/instructions/instructions.html for very good
instructions, but get the replacement battery ahead of time. The 1400 uses the
same battery.

Good answer but it begs the question: Where the heck do you find a Pram battery? I've got a 3400c and finding replacement batteries (in Toronto) is impossible. Additionally, any suppliers from Ebay or elsewhere, have old stock with no guarantee offered on Prams that are (at least) several years old. Does anyone know if these batteries can be home-made from RS parts, then heat-shrunk and used? Seems like the only alternative.
