I noticed as I was signing up that " Creating a Google Account
activates Personalized Search, which finds the search results most relevant to you based on your search history and more. " That's pretty disturbing to me. I know I can turn it off, but somehow I doubt that checkbox actually disables this "feature" of Google.

Maybe not, but there is a Firefox extension called CustomizeGoogle that has a number of options to protect your privacy; you might want to check into that.

Google can track me by IP, and I can't do anything about that.

Actually according to what I've been reading, you can; see above, and other Firefox extensions for anonymizing your internet use.
 But
voluntarily giving Google more info (like my email address, my proclivity for talking about Macs, etc) sounds like a bad idea. Right now, somebody has to go figure that out by adding up information from various websites. Using Google puts it all right there in Google's database.

Is anybody else concerned about this, or am I just paranoid?

I'm not that thrilled about the issues this raises either. But I can understand why Dan is moving the lists, since the Maclaunch service has drawbacks of other kinds.

If anyone would like to subscribe to the Google version of this list without signing up for a Google Account, or just so you can keep getting your list email with the address you are using now, you can join the group by sending an email to:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

This will allow you to subscribe outside of a Google account.
