Aha! I did not think of that. Is it necessary to change back before restart?

Yes, that's the only "inconvernience." But after trying everything else, I
found this the only consistent way to start from a CD.
The other I've found, is that some disks have OS9 (or trickier yet, OS X) as
start-up system, which may mean (depending on the software,) that your
computer will have to be hacked to start from OS9 (you'll need to consult
OS9forever, or a similar hacksite for OS X.)
However, anything that has OS 8.6 or earlier will work.
