Some newbie questions from a recent discoverer of the Power list:

I've got a PowerBase 180 (low profile, not desktop) with its original internal HD (1.2 GB IDE) and CD-ROM drive, plus a couple of PCI cards (Ethernet and USB adapters), running Mac OS 9.0.2. It's been mainly a paperweight for a couple of years now, but I'm interested in turning it into a Linux box. If I can do it for not a lot of cash (i.e., $300 or under) I'd love to repurpose the old trusty Mac clone. I've been puttering around websites like LowEndMac to see what options are out there, and I wanted to get some opinions / advice / pointers to other websites for more info.

1) Surveying the different flavors of Linux, I'm leaning towards Yellow Dog, as it looks like the best documented, or at least the best aimed at someone like me (who's used Linux at work but never installed or maintained it). Would YDL be a good choice, or would another distro be better?

2) Would the 1.2 GB HD on the PowerBase be sufficiently large enough to handle MacOS and Linux? I don't intend to have many files on the MacOS side (just there for the sake of having the Linux partition, really), and my aim for Linux is just to have a platform to learn the ropes, not necessarily host a server or anything too demanding. If I'd need a bigger drive, can anyone recommend where to look for one?

Thanks in advance for any and all advice.
