To clarify kename's response: On rare occasion, you encounter a message that causes problems when you select it. If you cannot select it, you cannot delete it. The trick is to select it as part of a group. For example, select any other message, then shift-click the offending message. Or drag a selection rectangle around both. Then you can delete both messages at once.
