A few things: 1) you should tell SpamSieve to only evaluate if the 'from' address is NOT in your address book. 2) Once the email is in your Spam folder, there's no need to do the Cmd+A then Cmd+Y, since Spamieve has already determined that these messages are spam. 3) I assume that when you get false positives (legit messages in the Spam folder) you are marking them as 'Good'. This is important, this is how you train the software. 4) I subscribe to a few email lists like this one. I have filters set up that run BEFORE the Spam filter to trap emails from these lists.
