Hold down option and command keys when launching PowerMail. This will
give you some options for database first aid. It should say something like:

>> Check one or all of the boxes below to perform
>> maintenance operations on your PowerMail data files:
>>
>> - Compact mail, address and settings databases
>> - Verify the consistency of database records
>> - Rebuild the sort indices
>> - Low level database rebuild

I believe the process is:

1. Check the first three and see if that does it.
2. If not, try checking "Low level database rebuild".

If you were fortunate enough to recover your mail database from certain
destruction, I'd be sure to make a backup of that PowerMail Files folder
first, say on a disk or CD apart from your hard drive. Then try the
rebuild with the one on your hard drive. If worse comes to worse you may
have to sift through the backup manually for important messages.

Do you still have your "PM Key" files used to register PowerMail? backup
those too.

(From what I've seen the stand-alone "combo" updaters seem to have fewer
problems than the Software Update process. Maybe next time!)

Don't hesitate to post again and let us know how it goes.
