The only disadvantage to opening a message in a web browser is that then it
downloads images (usually). Tracking software uses the download of images to
show that you have read the email, therefore your email address is valid.
Also, my experience is that HTML and text versions of an email are often
different. There may be links in the HTML version that are not in the text
version.
