Palo Verde provides the following response:

Palo Verde uses TLD; however, we faced a similar situation years ago when we
went from SID (Self-Reading Dosimeters) to ED (electronic dosimeters). Because
the term SID was specifically referenced in our UFSAR (as is TLD) we simply
retained the acronym and added some clarification in the definition section of
all applicable procedures.

Electronic Personal Dosimeter (EPD) - an electronic dosimetry device which
provides convenient monitoring of accumulated exposure by workers in an RCA,
and has the capability to alarm, both audibly and visibly, at preset dose and
dose rate values. The EPD can function as both a SID and an alarming dosimeter.

Self Indicating Dosimeter (SID) - a dosimetry device used to monitor a worker's
radiation exposure between TLD processing periods, which is easily read by the
worker in the field. Examples consist of pocket ion chamber type and electronic
personal dosimeter type.

If your licensing documents have a specific reference to TLD, it is typically
easier to handle this thru your procedure process rather than a licensing
document change.

Subject: Powernet: What term do you use to describe your TLD?

Fort Calhoun would like to know what term you use for your primary dosimeter
(dose of legal record (DLR), record dose dosimeter (RDD), TLD, OSL, etc). We
would like to change from "TLD" to a more generic term in our procedures and
references but still be consistent with the industry so workers are familiar
with the term from one plant to the next. Appreciate your help/

Thanks,
Dohn
