Roger,

Palo Verde makes a number of 'routine' Containment Building power entries
during each operational cycle. We enter every 6 months to perform lubrication
of the CEDM cooling fan motors (typically about 100 to 150 person-mrem). We
have requested that our Engineering folks look into using sealed bearing and as
of yet we have not done this modification. Prior to each outage (2 a year) we
enter the Containment Building at power to perform elevator checks to ensure
that it will be working, re-lamp general lighting, perform radiation and
contamination surveys to support postings after shutdown, install batteries in
e-lights, allow I&C to check RCP speed probes, and to allow Engineering to walk
down S/G blowdown lines.

As needed, we also make entries for troubleshooting, emergent inspections, etc.

Seth.

Subject: Powernet: Reason for Containment Entries at Power

For those (PWRs) who make containment entries at power, for what reason are you
doing so (e.g., RCP oil topoff, troubleshoot key monitors, emergent inspection,
etc.)?

Thanks very much in advance,

Roger
