Part of the justification for not doing more than this is the automatic self-checking the dosimeter dose on a pretty frequent basis. This self-check includes monitoring the detector circuitry for a minimum number of pulses per unit time. Basically, if the thing is broken, it will take itself out of service and annunciate an alarm when it does. This is in addition to our yearly calibration. One of our new employees that came from another utility claims we are out of line with the rest of the industry on this as they just did a yearly response check.
