North Anna's reply:

At the time of TLD issuance, we perform a audible hearing check with a DAD
tester with the worker wearing hearing protection. We do not have a method to
achieve the noise level encountered in the field.

As a side note, all of our EDs are issued with an alternate alarming device.
This devices boosts the audible alarm to 85 decibels and has an installed
vibration device. This increases the worker's chances of hearing and feeling
an ED alarm.

Subject: Powernet: EPD Alarm Hearing Check

Progress Energy requests a response to the following:

* At the time of TLD issuance, when performing the audible hearing
check for EPD alarms, do you perform the check in an area where background
noise is generated at a decibel level that would generally be encountered in
the field?

* If yes, then how is that noise level achieved in a Dosimetry office
environment?

Any information on your process would be most appreciated.

Thank you for your time
