Palo Verde purchases tritium standards which are quenched. We do not prepare
our own quench sets.

We looked at this many years ago, and the Chemical Use Review Board (CRUB) has
a serious issue with using nitromethane. Due to its toxicity and volatility,
we opted not to buy it.

Subject: Powernet: Tritium Quench Curves

I would like to ask who uses Nitromethane as a quenching agent when creating
quench curves for H-3 or any other nuclide on a liquid scintillation counter.
If you do use it, can you tell where you purchase the chemical from,
concentration, catalog number, and what quantities you use for quenching your
standards?
