Similar to Ft. Calhoun….
Ft. Calhoun is about to start using passive monitoring.
1. Does your plant use passive monitoring? Yes
2. Does your plant do any monitoring as part of in-processing and if so how do you document it?
All personnel pass through monitors when exiting (not on entry) the site protected area
3. What equipment do you use? (PM-7, GEM-5, etc.)
Currently we have PM-7s and two GEM-5 at one of two protected area exits (GEM 5s to be installed after outage at other protected area exit)
4. Do you have a procedure that controls the requirements for passive monitoring and would you be willing to share? Yes, When person are processed in for exposure monitoring (issuance of TLDs) the passive monitor is used instead of a WBC and the no alarm condition is recorded on the TLD issuance form. Additionally an alarm condition at the protected area (security points)are procedurally documented in the shift logs.
We have done a sensitivity study to validate that our setpoints are appropriate for the PM7’s and will be done for the GEM 5 prior to installation of a GEM 5 at the RCA exit point.

Fermi - GEM5, similar to Ginna,
except we do not have PA entrance monitors, exit only
