Palo Verde provides the following response:

Years ago, Palo Verde discontinued the practice of painting tools used inside
the RCA purple to denote that they may be potentially contaminated.

We limit the contamination levels on tools used in the RCA to <20k dpm fixed, <
1000 dpm/100 cm2 loose. Items that exceed these levels are either
decontaminated or are used exclusively within contaminated areas. We also
prohibit the release of common tools from the RCA. . We also maintain a tool
issue area inside the RCA and allow M&TE items to be released provided they
meet the release criteria. We do have a small satellite M&TE cal lab set up
inside the U-1 RCA

Subject: Powernet: Marking of Contaminated RCA Tools

DCPP would like to discontinue the practice of using paint to identify
contaminate tools as RP is no longer able to control purple/magenta paint due
to contractors and vendors working onsite.

For those who have stopped using paint on contaminated RCA tools what method do
you use to communicate the hazard associated with contaminated tools?
