The IAEA recently published charts in a plain language attempt to explain radiation health effects.
The document can be found at :
http://www-ns.iaea.org/downloads/iec/health-hazard-perspec-charts2013.pdf
I have not studied the IAEA charts in detail,
but I really like the use of the categories:
"SAFE" and "SAFE FOR EVERYONE".
