Tom,

I hope you can spare a few moments to educate me in my search to fill a
few curiosities I bear.

Why is work on this project subject to legalese? It was my understanding
that projects in the OpenSolaris 'world' were free from the evil grasp
of Sun's legal advisory.

Is the code coming from Sun internally? Was code pulled from the old
SunOS development packages? Or is there simply a third party code
entanglement involved?

I became curious because this project sits pretty much idle outside of
the Great Wall of Sun, as other projects on the lists have dramatic
growth spurts.

I am hoping the reason for the legal hair splitting isn't just because
the project is worked on primarily inside Sun, if that's the case, how
hard would it be to justify a push for that 'staff' to participate in
the OpenSolaris side of things? Sure it would take a new level of
organization for this particular project, but the pros would outweigh
the cons.

If thus is the case, I'd expect it would save Sun a lot of money in
legal fees, also there probably (not 100% sure) would be a lot more
community support if the community wasn't so deep in this pit of
obscurity. After all saving money and increasing the combined
productivity for Sun would increase revenue's in the long run..

If however, none of this is the case and the trademarked 'PowerPC' name
is the source of all the legal waiting lists, my apologies for the
mix-up.

Best Regards,

Christopher Frost
