June 18, 2009 Farouk Arnaz Dangdut Queen Inul Sues Lawyer Dangdut diva Inul Daratista has filed a criminal complaint against a lawyer who circulated a letter claiming that the popular singer had used her karaoke outlets and private home to manufacture bombs to disrupt the upcoming presidential election. Speaking to reporters at the National Police headquarters on Thursday, Inul, whose overtly sexual hip-grinding antics have turned her into a national icon of sorts, said she had filed defamation charges against Andang Situmorang for what she called baseless claims. The letter in question, dated April 26, was sent to the Central Jakarta District Court, various journalists and a lawyer. In it, Andang alleged that the singer's Inul Vizta karaoke outlets and her house in the exclusive suburb of Pondok Indah, which is near the home of National Police Chief Gen. Bambang Hendarso Danuri, had been used to manufacture bombs to disrupt the upcoming presidential election. Inul, 30, whose career has been a lightning rod of controversy, especially among some Muslim groups who have denounced her "drill" dancing as pornographic, asked that police take her complaint seriously. "It's a serious crime," said Inul, accompanied by her lawyer, Herman Kamal. "He sent his open letter to several places, including to the court, to my house and my karaoke outlets, stating that [these places] have been used to manufacture bombs." Asked what might have motivated Andang to send the letter, Inul said he had previously sued her unsuccessfully in the Central Jakarta District Court for alleged copyright violations. Andang could not be reached for comment on Thursday evening. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
