Ashleigh Banfield : ON LOCATION
------------------------------------------------------
Welcome back to Ashleigh Banfield's daily newsletter... The topic tonight is police
brutality -- caught on tape... More about our show in a little bit, but first let me
remind you that our show will be MOVING TO A NEW TIME SLOT -- 10pm Eastern/7pm Pacific
as of MONDAY JULY 15th. We hope you tune into MSNBC's terrific NEW primetime
programming which features Jerry Nachman at 7pm ET, Phil Donahue at 8pm ET (yes, he's
back and you don't want to miss his PREMIERE), Hardball with Chris Matthews at 9pm ET,
and of course our show ASHLEIGH BANFIELD: On Location at 10pm ET.
Now let's go back to business...
TONIGHT, Chip Reid will be substitute hosting for Ashleigh. Our topic is police
brutality and Chip will be anchoring from Inglewood, California. This case involves a
white police officer who slams then handcuffs a black teenager onto a car. It's all
caught on tape as we see Officer Jeremy Morse violently punching the teenager. Morse
says he reacted that way only after the teen grabbed his private parts --
ouch!...Anyway, this case is now before an LA County grand jury and the amateur
videographer has been subpoenaed to appear in court....Chip will report on the latest
details on this story...
Also, in Oklahoma City, the police chief is defending two of his officers who were
caught on videotape hitting a suspect with their batons. Once again, you can't peel
your eyes off this video... We'll speak to OKC Police Chief M. T. Berry and the "video
vigilante" who shot the tape!
Later in the program, Chip Reid will have a report on how videotapes have changed
police work...
Finally, we'll go to Salt Lake City, Utah where handyman Richard Ricci is charged with
burglary and theft. Shellee Smith will report on whether the police are any closer to
solving this case.
Don't miss our show tonight at 9pm Eastern/6pm Pacific. But don't forget -- starting
MONDAY JULY 15th, we move to our NEW TIME SLOT at 10pm Eastern/7pm Pacific.
