Hi,
I am unable to (correctly) configure my printer.
Model: Brother HL-1430 (parallel).
System: SunOS solaris 5.11 snv_55b i86pc i386 i86pc.
Using "Preferences", "Add/Remove Printer" I have been able to produce an
"/etc/printers.conf" file which says:
laser:\
:printer-uri-supported=ipp\://localhost/printers/laser:\
:bsdaddr=localhost,laser,Solaris:
_default:\
:use=laser:
I selected "/dev/printers/0" as the port and found suitable make/model/driver
settings.
If I execute "uname -a | lpr" the printer responds just fine - likewise with
"cat file.txt | lpr".
"lpc status" reports queueing/printing is enabled.
"lpstat -t" reports:
scheduler is running
system default printer: laser
device for laser: /dev/printers/0
laser accepting requests since 2 April 2007 16:37:27 BST
printer laser idle. enabled since 2 April 2007 16:55:47 BST. available.
Further, "lpstat -l -p" reports:
printer laser idle. enabled since 2 April 2007 16:55:47 BST. available.

So, it sort of works - or at least I'm getting somewhere.
I cannot, however, send PDF's to the printer nor print from within
Firefox/OpenOffice.org.
Sending a PDF file to the printer with "cat CV.pdf | lpr" seems to cause the
printer to hang. I can see the job listed and the printer's "Data" light comes
on as if it's about to print but nothing happens. Same result from within
Firefox/OpenOffice.org.
I have seen:
http://bugs.opensolaris.org/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6374608
and executed "update_drv -a -i 'lp' ecpp" as root.
Ghostscript is compiled with hl1250, the correct driver for this printer.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Best regards,
Stuart.
