but if you can't wait that long :-) then you could always try .... a) adding the pnm2ppa package from the Companion CD (CCD) - SFWpnm2p - b) then modifying the foomatic-rip script (/usr/lib/lp/bin/foomatic-rip) so that the 'my $execpath' contains the path to the pnm2ppa executable (/opt/sfw/bin I think). c) then get the appropriate ppd file (either from the CCD SFWfppds package or from linuxprinting.org) and copy it into /usr/lib/lp/model/ppd/system/foomatic/HP, and then add it to /usr/lib/lp/model/ppd/ppdcache (so printmgr can see it). ... cut ...
