Hello all interested in ProTools:
We cannot simply make idle demands with time frames or deadlines for
DigiDesign to meet. Remember, we are dealing with a generally
friendly company here. I personally have a history with them For
those of you who did not know, you may read the article about that on
their website or on mine.
We are dealing with a company who has made changes in the past
specifically to accommodate blind users. I think it would be a step
backwards for us to now take a confrontational approach.

There is NO LEGAL obligation on their part to do anything at all
about this issue. So, if we add arbitrary deadlines, what would they
mean, since we have no recourse. We do not wish to push them into
saying, "fine, then we will formally announce that it is not possible
for DigiDesign to spend the necessary R&D investment to serve such a
small population. We have no concrete evidence to suggest that there
are enough ProTools users who need accessiblility via Voice Over." or
something of that nature.

I will work on language for a petition. I am offering to submit the
petition to DigiDesign via my long time contacts who work there and
are aware of these issues.

What the blind producers community can do is to devise some way to
make our best estimate of how many blind consumers currently own any
ProTools system at all. I have tried to keep numbers of those in the
U.S. who had their systems purchased via the Department of
Rehabilitation, as well as those others whom I personally know.

This is a business decision for DigiDesign just as it is for any
company making any product. Apple themselves do not even make all of
their own applications accessible. So, be careful what you expect
from third parties.
