Yep. This is because InDesign applies no colour management to greyscale images 
whatsoever while Photoshop does. This is one of those horrible inconsistencies that 
one only finds out about when it jumps up and bites you, since it doesn't make any 
sense for two applications, which are touted as working so well together, to actually 
behave quite differently.

This is an enormous hole in InDesign as far as I am concerned, since it clobbers the 
whole concept of device independent documents if they include any greyscale images, 
which for me means that colour management in InDesign is completely broken. This is a 
great shame since otherwise it is a great application.

I tackled Chris Kitchener from Adobe about this at an InDesign promotional day and he 
appeared to be very interested since he claimed that photographers were an important 
market for the product. However I never received a reply when, at his request, I wrote 
and explained why this would be a particular problem for photographers.

You could visit Adobe's web site and submit a feature request; if enough people do 
they might listen...............
