1. I use ZoneAlarm Pro firewall on the PC but don't think they do it for Mac. Any recommendations as to which is best for Mac?
If you are up to date, there is a firewall built in to OSX...

2. Best antivirus software for Mac? I use Norton on PC but seem to recall some saying this gives problems on a Mac.
Norton just seems to be bad news altogether... Virex? The consensus seems to be not to bother if you are using OSX...

3. If antivirus and software firewall is installed on a Mac running OSX 10.2.2 via broadband ethernet connection, will an internet connection from within VirtualPC using the Mac's connection be protected OK, or will it need its own firewall?
Pass, but would have thought it would be protected.

4. If I set up the Mac to act as its own server for sending out email, would a software firewall be enough protection?
Why not consider adding a router to the mix? Do you have to use SW firewall? A router would be able to make you completely invisible from the outside, as long as you have no ports open. (Which you would if you are setting up a mail server...)
