What does this mean for us? Will manufacturers make cameras that produce an EXR file instead of a RAW file? And how can a file from a normal CCD suddenly capture so much more dynamic range (the examples shown were either shot on 35mm film stock and transferred to digital or shot on digital video (i.e. The last Star Wars movie, so that cameras used were not 'new technology' in themselves).
If someone can explain to a layman what this technology might mean in the real world (of photography), I'd be grateful. Until then I won't cancel my order for the 1Ds.
