Dear Ian

Stock libraries vary one to the other. The two biggest have been pioneers in
digital delivery. The smallest are indeed very ignorant.

Each library's perspective is based on how to market their collections. I
make more sales in stock agencies from my 645 originals than I do from my
35mm originals. Size matters. There are many exceptions. I know one UK agent
who sold a 4Mb digital image for 5,600 for one use. The same image had
already sold many times and easily earnt the photographer the cost of his
digital camera several times over.

As a general rule however an agent has to maximise sales. The bigger files
have more potential uses. There have been numerous questions on the
stockphoto list about how to interpolate upwards to "cheat" agency
requirements. That really isn't useful so some agencies are raising the
barrier as a means of keeping wannabees, amateurs and time wasters from
clogging their mailboxes.
