I don't know if this will help but... If you are using 10.2.x you may wish to look at the free gimp-print and HPIJS drivers. They make use of the CUPS print system and work very well. I'm using HPIJS to use a PC only HP K80 from both OS 9 and X machines. Quality is excellent and from the OS 9 system it appears as a colour postscript printer! It needed a network box, since the USB is not very good on that model (15 quid for an Intel NetportExpress from a computer fair). There are a few minor tweaks needed to some OSX files but it has enabled me to use the HP as a general purpose printer. I've collected all the various info in the maclinks page on the site below.
