Ian If you are running a Western digital drive download their toolset and boot your machine up from the floppy you will make. You will be able to access the WD drive and transfer the whole drive to another drive unless the drive is not spinning. The tools will also allow you to check the drive and it will give you a fault code which you can use for getting a replacement. Seagate do a similar toolset as does Hitachi(ex IBM) I now only use WD and Seagate for this very reason having had a total of 12 hard drives fail in the last 2 years Regards Michael Wilkinson. 106 Holyhead Rd, Ketley, Telford, Shropshire.
