This really seems to be the luck of the draw. I have an old Formac which was sold as a cheap re-badged monitor because of a minor dark area in one corner. This small dark area is always covered by pallettes so doesn't affect working. It has remained remarkably consistent and useable well beyond the date when it was relegated to non critical work.

My two LaCies are also behaving themselves.

I've been lucky with monitors perhaps while other peripherals I won't mention.............

I got rid of the hateful thing, and got a Lacie instead, which I recommend.

I took delivery of three 19" Lacies before I had to spend a little extra and
go for a Sony monitor which was far more even and pure across the screen,
the Lacies were terrible. I was even able to take a straight digital snap of
the screens and send to the supplier to show how bad they were.
