>I have tried "Fotostation" and sure enough it will > take image 9657.jpg and turn it into xy9657e.jpg but then it will re-number > every other image in that folder in an ascending order which is no good > because the next jpg in the folder might be 8.jpg and I don't want it to > become xy9658e.jpg I want I to be xy8e.jpg > > Anyone got any fab ideas that will save me from a trip to the looney doctor?
Get the app called "A Better Finder Rename". Get it from Version tracker. Works in the Finder as a contextual menu( not inside an app) and lets you keep or remove all or parts of existing names and add Prefixes, spaces or suffixes to your choice. Results are instantaneous and redoable should you want it different. All cataloguing apps ( iVIew, ACDsee, Fotostation) provides limited options since it's assumed you only need a big list of growing numbers, not as you want it now. For back up protection , open all the folders and take a screen shot of each so you can rewind to original should some confusion arises. All the best.
