Regarding what color temperature lighting environment to view your monitor in and to what color temperature to tune your monitor; I found very helpful advice at www.srgb.com. Regardless of what you think about sRGB, there is a very easy primer under the heading, "Why sRGB?". It outlines the recommended viewing environment for viewing an sRGB on screen.
