Adobe's marketing strategy has come in for enormous criticism over on the GoLive list where more than 95% of the 200 posts in the last 36 hours have been on this subject (including, I admit, some GL specific points not relevant here).

I am not sure how relevant Version Cue will be to me and the way I work, but the fact that it is ONLY available in an upgrade suite including apps that I just don't use (Indesign - I don't DO print) or really don't need to upgrade (still on Acrobat 5 which is fine for my needs - the few times I have to use it) makes for a very expensive upgrade for the 3 apps I do use, Photoshop, GL and Illustrator.

So maybe I will just upgrade those 3 individually as and when I need to/can afford it. What happens thereafter if I want to use Version Cue. Still only available in the suite upgrade?

I just don't like to have my arm twisted up behind my back while making purchasing decision.

Not your problem Rod, I know. I am full of admiration for the products that Adobe offer us, but there are occasions when if one doesn't make a noise, one gets trodden on.

The reason is that Adobe plans to market its full range of related products under this umbrella, much like Macromedia and their nomenclature MX, because they see an advantage in the more powerful links between the individual products in the lineup. Version Cue will allow collaborative projects between disparate groups using different individual applications conforming to the CS suite.

Also, you may well find that buying the suite is more economical than the individual components. The version number will still have some meaning in relation to upgrades, but the marketing will play on the CS theme.
