Hi

I would say that there is far more to RAW files than that. They contain
actual sensor data that the conversion program -can- use to extract more
useful data. An example would be using the ACR up-sampling on a raw file as
opposed to up-sampling a tiff from the camera.

If files from a camera are viewed as 'digital negatives' then using RAW
files is akin to being able to adjust the development time and temperature a
bit - or, if you consider different converter s/w, the developer.
