Without knowing what it is you want it for, it is very difficult to say,
especially with the rate of new model releases. I get asked similar
questions when I'm teaching and usually answer 'it depends...' :-)
I just assumed that as we are looking in the 400-500 bracket then it has to be for "snaps" doesn't it? - recces, castings, holidays etc.
You would be well advised to find someone with a 'Which' subscription and
check their reports.
Strange thing is, I subscribe to WHICH? magazine and the S30/40/45 weren't even tested - so on this occasion I ignored their 'best buy' - and sorry, I can't remember what that was.
