Hello Prodigers,

I am cross list posting this with permission from the list mum (Richard).

I've made a custom profile for my Flextight P3 and am now scanning using it.
The Histogram shows that I'm not taking advantage of anywhere near most of
the levels.

I'm scanning an IT8 Target as the test scan with the new profiles : 2 new
profiles have been made with a Gamma Setting of 2.2 and 3.0. The profile
made at Gamma 3.0 gives me a histogram that has data from Level 59 to Level
240. The Gamma 2.2 profile gives me a Histogram that has data from 20 to
230.

My question is how can I range the data generated using these profiles over
more of the Levels without hitting 'Auto', which I assume negates the whole
process of scanning with a Custom Profile in the first place.

I have been informed that one way to do this would be to place a piece of
black tape over the IT8 black target on the greyscale wedge which is
lightproof to accurately range the scanner to achieve the true dmax. Without
this there will be a compression of the grey scale to the dmax
of the film.

This sounds ingenious ! But before I go ahead and ruin my IT8 Target
permanently, may I have other people opinions on this recommendation.

Many thanks for your help and advises.

Best wishes,
David
