'm trying to cut down on the time that i spend sorting through NEFs prior
to their processing, ie their selection.
Currently I use iView media pro (on a DP 1Ghz G4) but i find it just too
slow. There is a lag time of around 10 seconds to see a NEF larger than
thumbnail, and it's this that i want to sort out ... does anyone have any
suggestions of an application that would enable me to see the NEFs in quick
succession, plus the ability to sort them?
Tricky isn't it! I'm just reviewing this myself:
MacBibble is reasonably quick, but I'd love it to have the check box (next to thumbs)that Photo Mechanic has. I'd add a check box for convert to 16bit tif and medium size jpeg proof; then batch the lot. Life isn't ideal...
What I've found:
Photo Mechanic doesn't give a large enough preview to judge focus/sharpness etc with the D1X, but is fine for my Fuji S2 (and the next button is grayed out for RAW files)
iView doesn't seem to think NEFs exist as far as I can see, although I just downloaded a demo
Nikon View isn't going to like Fuji RAFs I suspect
I tried Fotostation and it took forever to scroll through the thumbs on my powerbook
Photoshop browser is glacial and doesn't support RAW (yet)- suppose PS8 will?
Extensis portfolio6 supports the lot (via in built Bibble plug in) but won't be any quicker for you
I haven't tried Canto Cummulus, Capture one, Adobe Raw
Conclusion: None of them do what I want so far! I've stuck to MacBibble for the moment
