DHCP failed, so I disabled it and had to hardware reset, so have tried
reserving an address through the router, but it will only reserve addresses
in the range.

address.

WinAssist will not let you specify the last number - it inserts 255 for you!

I have (re)enabled DHCP server on the NetGear FVL328 router/hub

Internet access works OK, and DHCP works on everything else connected,
including the HP JetDirect print server, on 169.254.92.173

I previously used a simple hub for the network, which seem to manage without
knowing IP addresses. 

The router range is 192.168.0.2 to 51 subset mask 255.255.255.0
