Yes, Mike "Watts is volts times amps" But auto starters can draw over a hundred amps for several seconds, and well specified vehicles have alternators rated at 70 amps or more, and a 70 amp hour battery should be capable of producing 70 amps for an hour (do not count on it).
To re-charge 1000ws in one or two seconds, you would obviously have to connect straight from the battery - and it would be far less demanding on the circuitry than a cold morning start, - even for a petrol engine, let alone a big old diesel. For the occasional flash, e.g. wildlife, you could manage with the engine off - if you parked on a hill. =============================================================== GO TO http://www.prodig.org for ~ GUIDELINES ~ un/SUBSCRIBING ~ ITEMS for SALE
