The pocket drive is now visible after I erased the disk under utilities. I didn't have an option to first aid the disk,
as when the icon for the pocket drive was selected, the first aid/ repair buttons were greyed out.
Obviously, it remains a mystery why this suddenly happened, and I'd be somewhat cautious to store data on this volume alone in
future. (not that I ever did)
