For the benefit of the two other people on the planet who want to use old
extension rings with an S2, I still haven't heard back from Fuji UK about
exactly why I can't use a Nikon K1 ring, but I did speak to Nikon. Is it
just me, or have solid, ultra-professional brands just collapsed into
amorphous, pathetic shadows of their former selves - jellyfish that once
were lions? The rather sweet sounding Aussie girl at Nikon seemed to be
reading from a list of prepared answers, 'til I told her I did actually
know about the meter coupling considerations of using manual lenses (etc)
on DSLRs; then she had to go and consult one of her few colleagues not at
Focus, who thinks that while D1/D1X/F5 bodies are OK, the D100/S2/F80 types
have different meter/aperture coupling that might be damaged by fitting
pre-AI items. Still not as specific, confident and authoritative as I would
expect from Nikon, but it might be of interest to you two blokes, and maybe
your dog as well.
