Why soul destroying? Answering questions and demonstrating should not be
soul destroying. I can think of a million jobs that are soul destroying (and
I have done a few) but standing behind a counter in a centrally heated
building can only be soul destroying if you want to be doing another job -
like taking photographs!

I saw Martin Woods demonstrating the SLRn very enthusiastically and spent a
good 10-15 minutes listening and watching. I went past the stand again half
an hour so later and he was doing the same demonstration to some new faces
with the same professionalism.

I also spent a similar time on the Foto Station stand. And I was given a
personal tour of the software with great enthusiasm; we even talked about
some of the photographs used to demonstrate the software - there were some
shots of aeroplanes that were absolutely stunning and when I pointed to
one particular one as outstanding, he said he had it blown up an displayed
in his office! And my guide wasn't a lowly employ, who I would expect to be
enthusiastic because that's his job.

Sorry, don't buy your explanation, good try! <g>
